Dzongkhag Forestry Sector at a Glance The Dzongkhag Forestry Sector has been established since 1994 to represent the Department of Forests in implementing the decentralized forestry propgrammes. In Trongsa, the Forestry Office is located within the Administrative block of Dzongkhag Administration in the Dzong. The Sector is headed by the Dzongkhag Forest Officer (DzFO) with the Assistant Dzongkhag Forest Officer (ADzFO). Each geog has forestry office integrated with the other two RNR sectors- Agriculture and Livestock. The Geog Forest Extension Agent (GFEA) assists and facilitates the GYT to carryout forestry activities in the geog.
The main mandates and functions of the Sector are to carryout the decentralised forestry programmes as follows: 1. Community Forestry Development Programme; 2. Private Forestry Programme; 3. Afforestation Programme; 4. Forest Fire Management Programme; 5. School Social Forestry Programme; and 6. Allotment of Subsidised Rural Timber Supply.
There are several important programmes implemented and accomplished in rural areas during the last two five year plan period, i.e., 8th and 9th Five Year Plans. The programmes carried out are mainly in the field of community based forest and natural resource management through people’s participation.
