Education Sector

Current Situation:
The Dzongkhag Education sector aims to achieve 100% literacy rate by the year 2015. The Dzongkhag Administration will work towards to achieve education for all, which is compulsory education for those falling in the age group 6-15 who have not enrolled. For those who are above 15 can get enrolled in 27 non formal educations which provides basic and post literacy courses to the learners in all five Gewogs.
As of now, there are 24 schools under Trongsa Dzongkhag. Out of the 24 schools, 7 schools are under Nubi Gewog, 5 under Drakten, 5 under Langthel, 4 under Tangsibji and 3 schools under Korphu Gewog. There are 3464 students enrolled in schools with 1704 boys and 1760 girls in total. The Dzongkhag have 134 male and 71 female teachers supported by 27 supporting staffs and 26 ESP/GSC staffs. There are six boarding schools: Sherubling higher secondary school, Taktse middle secondary school, Tshangkha lower secondary school, Langthel lower secondary school, Bemji primary school and Korphu primary school. Tongtophey, Nabji, Nimshong and Kela community primary schools are provided day meal to the students and Jangbi community primary school is provided with day and night meal with support from Tarayana Foundation.
Of late, continuing education has started at Sherubling Higher Secondary School for those who want to continue their education as well as upgrade their qualification.
Constraints/Problems
1. A very small proportion of population does not get access to primary education due to the rugged terrain, sparse and scattered settlement. Students have to walk for more than an hour to reach the nearest schools. Many smaller students miss their classes and some even drop their studies during monsoon. This kind of hardship is prevalent in remote villages.
2. The inadequate manpower in engineering section leads to poor supervision and monitoring of the capital and often the works have to be kept as spill over for the next financial year.

Recommendations
1. Consolidation of schools in the Gewog wherever it is found feasible and potential
2. Placement of adequate engineering personnel to supervise and monitor the capital works
