Korphu Geog

Korphu

Korphu Geog is the farthest Geog in the Dzongkhag with a total area of 288.1 Kmē. And it is located to the left side of the mandue-chu river. The whole geog falls under Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park that covers an area of 1723 Kmē. It consists of 3 main villages with 210 number of households registered under the geog and 1091 number of population of which 578 are male and 513 are female according to the PHCB-2005 report.

This geog falls geographically to the south of the Dzongkhag and shares boundary with Langthel geog to the north, Wangduephodrang and Tsirang Dzongkhag to west and Zhemgang and Sarpang Dzongkhag to the south.

Since it is the furthest geog in the Dzongkhag the facilities like road and electricity are not available in the geog. But very recently the geog has one power tiller track under construction, which once constructed will benefiting the whole geog and will help to sell their surplus farm products to the near by market i.e. Zhamgang Dzongkhag town. The geog has 16 numbers of telephone line connected to the villages and offices.
The geog enjoys a warm temperature climate with clayey loam soil type, with an altitude ranging from about 1070 meters to 1300 meters above sea level.
Crops like paddy, rice, wheat and maize are grown and vegetables are also grown. A RNR center, BHU and three ORC provides a basic service to the people of the geog. The geog has one Primary school, three Community Primary school and four NFE centers providing education facilities even to the far away villages.

The sacred monuments like Nubji Lakhang where tapering stone still exists, Kubdra, which are all believed that Guru Padmasambhava has visited and

meditated in this sacred site on his way back from Bumthang to India in 8th centuries, are located in this geog.
Recently with the opening of Eco-Tourism from Langthil to Korphu goeg there has been immense number of tourists visiting the sacred sites.
