1. Drakteng Gewog.

Drakteng Gewog is located towards the south covering an area of about 84.8Kmē and is the smallest Gewog by size in the Dzongkhag. It has 343 number of household and 9 number of villages registered where according to the PHCB-2005 the gewog have 2697 number of population of which 1311 are male and 1386 are female. The Gewog shares a boundary with Nubi Gewog to the north, Tangsibji to the west, partially with Bumthang Dzongkhag to the East and Langthil towards the south and southeast.

The Geogs has one BHU and a RNR centers providing the basic services to the villagers. There are three ORC rendering medical facilities to far-flung places. The geog has one Middle Secondary School benefiting students of the gewog and from other geogs too. One Lower Secondary School and Two Community Primary School provides basic education facilities and it is further supplemented by four NFE centers in the villages. According to the PHCB-2005 report, of 2408 number of population above age six, 1393 are literate.

The Trongsa-Gelephu highway passes through the gewog, which serves as a main economic artery. The gewog has three farm roads and two approach roads, which are connected from the highway to the villages playing a vital role in marketing the surplus vegetable products.

Paddy, maize, mustard, rice and wheat are the form of major crops grown in the geog. All most all type of vegetables are grown and villagers from this gewog are mostly found in Trongsa Sunday market selling their surplus vegetables since they are near and are connected by Trongsa-Gelephu highway. The villager of this geog has a long tradition of sharecropping the wetland which is mostly owned by people outside the geog.
The geog has one Micro Hydle established in 1987 with the finical assistance from the Government of Japan, which has a generating capacity of 0.03 MW and benefiting about 105 households within the geog. There are 91 numbers of telephone users in the geog. Still most part of the geog is not electrified because the villages are far from the micro hydle site.
This geog enjoys a warm temperature climate with sandy loam soil type, with altitude ranging from about 1100 meters to 2000 meters above sea level. The monsoon season starts from June and goes on till August.
Drakteng geog is of historical importance particularly in the early part of the

20th century when it was the winter Royal Palace of His Majesty The Second King of Bhutan. The Kungarubtan Dzong is an important landmark in the region, which is currently used as a monastic school by Trongsa Rabdey. There is a nunnery

located 150 meters above the Highway reminding that Bhutan is a Buddhist country.
